The Strength of Connection: Creating Meaningful Relationships
For those fairly new to NVC: During this two day workshop we will explore and practice new tools to: ® Transform potential conflict into connecting dialogue ® Learn where to go after “NO” ® Motivate children without punishment and reward ® Repair ruptures in relationships ® Create more self-care and balance in our lives ® More fully live the love we feel
Facilitator: Kathleen Macferran
Is a CNVC (Center for Nonviolent Communication) certified trainer from Bainbridge Island, WA, who shares this transformative communication tool with schools, community groups, churches, prison inmates and families. With the Freedom Project, she facilitates the transformation of prisoners into peacemakers. She mentors others to share this NVC with integrity. Kathleen’s website: StrengthofConnection.org.
The Location of all workshops is St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 5501 Main St., Houston, TX .

- Methods for facing challenges with compassion
- Strategies to come back to center when you are thrown off balance
- How you can inspire support for moving forward
- How to grieve fully to enhance and expedite your healing
- How to express your truth even when others are afraid or don’t understand your transition
- Ways to make friends with the unknown
- Discover new depths of self-compassion and self-acceptance
Overview:
You’re in the midst of a life transition– career or relationship change, death of a loved one, financial unrest, or something else, and you’d like support companionship, direction and grace in moving through it.
Join CNVC Certified Trainers Mary Mackenzie and Kathleen Macferran for this transformative workshop devoted to supporting you through your current life transition. Much of the struggle in a big life transition happens when we forget the deeper meaning attached to it, when we lose compassion for ourselves, when we don’t allow enough time to mourn each stage or when we forget we have choice in every stage of our transition.
This workshop is about opening up your transition, examining it and loving it until you are connected to its meaning. Then we’ll explore exercises to uncover your choices in moving forward and clarifying the specific steps you’d like to take from here on.
Requested experience level:
Previous introduction to NVC through reading Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg or having attended a NVC training is useful, but not required.

Bainbridge Island is 35 minutes away from downtown Seattle by ferry. Once the ferry docks, everything you need is within walking distance. Workshop sessions will be in Kathleen’s waterfront gathering space (187 Parfitt Way SW, Bainbridge Island, Washington 98110). Several restaurants and coffee shops are within a few blocks. Overnight accommodations are available at the charming local Eagle Harbor Inn (www.theeagleharborinn.com) two blocks from the workshop site, or the Island Country Inn (www.islandcountryinn.com) and Best Western (www.bestwesternwashington.com/bainbridge-island-hotels) within a 20 minute walk.
Evenings may be spent nurturing yourself or building community with other NVC workshop participants at the local fitness center (enjoy a relaxing steam bath), movie theaters, walking near the marina or just strolling.

This workshop will explore the inner depths of our personal and collective well-being. We’ll explore what authenticity and courage mean for each of us, how we can speak with clarity and honesty, and how we can live more fully from authentic presence. In the process we’ll look at deep embodiment of the consciousness and elements of NVC, creating congruency in our internal and outer lives, transforming old pain into the vitality of the present, and how to transform conflict that manifests internally and externally. Developing greater self-responsibility and self-compassion as forces that keep us grounded and centered will be included in the experiential focus of this training.
This workshop will explore:
• Embodiment of NVC consciousness and skills
• Development of practices for grounding and sourcing our inner power
• How to live with authenticity and courage
• Ways to remain centered in the midst of others’ disappointment
• Transforming pain into power
Please note: Previous NVC training is required.

Accommodations
Hidden Hills, up Pine Creek Road between Omak and Tonasket, Washington, is a secluded resort of recent construction but designed to look like a late 19th century hotel with village. You can read more about the locale and how to get there at www.HiddenHillsResort.com. The owners, Ron and Martha Thomas, are genial hosts and especially delighted to provide a setting for our NVC retreat.
This workshop will be limited to 14 people. We have available seven rooms with queen-sized beds and private baths. If anyone prefers not sharing a bed, a roll-away bed can be placed in some of the larger rooms.
We expect registration to fill up quickly. We ask a $75 registration fee (which will be applied to the total cost) to reserve your place. Reservations will be confirmed in the order that fees are received. If you have to cancel, we’ll refund the fee if we find someone else to take your place. We will keep a standby waiting list of those wanting to attend.
Please make your own arrangements as to roommates, and include with your registration fee the name of the individual with whom you will room.

Discover ways to increase self-accountability without taking on responsibility for another, while maintaining care and respect for all involved.
